Description
Upper Lower House Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a cottage, likely dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with a slate roof and features end stacks. The building has a two-room plan, with a catslide outshot and a bread oven located at the junction with the catslide. It is one storey high with an attic, and has two 19th-century casement windows that are evenly spaced, along with two gabled half-dormers. The entrance is gabled, probably from the 19th century, and is covered by a stone roof. It leads to a moulded door frame and a ledged door fitted with spear-headed strap hinges.
Inside, the farmhouse has closely-set ceiling joists and run-out stop-chamfers on the beam above a plank and muntin screen, which features a round door head on the right end and a square head with a ledged door on the left end. The room further from the entrance, beyond the screen, has a chamfered beam with broach stops. A ledged round-headed door on the left side of the chimney leads to stone-newel stairs that are illuminated by splayed windows. The roof truss does not have a tie-beam; instead, it has a V-brace above the collar supported by four studs joined by rails, with a central gap for a door between the two upper rooms.
