Description

A farmhouse, now a house, likely dating from the late 17th to early 18th century. It is constructed of drystone rubble with a timber frame, roughcast exterior, slate and asbestos roofing, and an end stack. The building consists of a two-cell house with a three-bay barn attached at a right angle, along with a further cowhouse range that is not included in the listing. It is a one-story building with an attic. The north elevation features a 19th-century four-paned window to the right of a ledged 19th-century door, and a lean-to addition to the east with a two-light window. The south elevation has two evenly spaced 20th-century casement windows, each with a gabled dormer above. Further 20th-century casements are located on the east side of the barn, adjoining the house. Inside, the east wall features a fireplace with a deeply chamfered oak lintel measuring 1 foot 6 inches. A newel staircase with oak treads is positioned on the right-hand side, lit by a small, single light, oak-framed, chamfered window set within deep wall splayings. Ground floor framing is two panels high. A run-out stop chamfered beam is present in the west ground floor room, while the barn has “A” frame trusses to the ends and an interrupted tie-beam truss in the centre portion between the first floor rooms. The barn has "1669" incised on the south side of the first tie-beam north of the house. The house has been extended into the south bay of the barn. The attached cowhouse to the north of the barn is not included in the listing.
