Description

Dudgrove Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, possibly around 1692. It is constructed of coursed rubble with a cemented south front and features alternating quoins. The roof is hipped and covered with stone slates, topped by two central stone ridge stacks. The main house is L-shaped, with a former barn now integrated into the house at the north-west corner, creating a U-shape that includes a small brick infill block with a separate pyramidal roof in the well of the U. The building has two storeys and an attic, with the main façade facing south, which has three windows featuring 16-pane sashes in plain stone surrounds; these windows were renewed in the 1960s. The ground floor has two similar windows and a central doorcase with a half-glazed door, also in a plain stone surround, which is enhanced by a 19th-century decorative ironwork porch with a swept roof. There are two small gabled dormers with paired casements. The east front has a similar arrangement but lacks dormers, featuring a flat stone hood on brackets over a four-flush panel door with a decorative rectangular fanlight. Inside, there are several chamfered and stopped beams in the ground floor rooms. A tunnel behind the south front door supports the masonry of the central ridge stack above. The former barn adjoining the north-west corner has two storeys with scattered fenestration, mostly featuring timber lintels, some of which are original.
