Description
The Round House is a small circular building, likely a former canal and lock-keeper's house, located at the junction of the Thames and Severn Canal with the River Thames. It dates from the late 18th century, probably the 1780s or 1790s. The structure is roughcast on rubble with a small brick stack, and the roof is not visible. It has three storeys and a tall parapet wall.
On the west side, there is a flight of seven stone steps leading up to the upper ground floor, which features a pointed arch doorway with a stone surround, a plain boarded door, and a plain pointed arch fanlight. Each upper floor has a small pointed arch single light to the right of the door, as well as at the rear, all with plain stone surrounds and leaded casements. There are stone plat bands between the floors. The ground floor on the southeast side has a large stone-framed doorway with a keystone and a fully glazed door. There is also a rear lean-to, which may date from the 20th century.
