Description
This is a barn located immediately west-northwest of Pike's Farmhouse, likely built in the 18th century. It is constructed from coursed dry stone rubble and has a corrugated iron roof. The barn consists of four bays and features one splayed ventilator slit on either side of the full-height ledged entrance doors, with a single ledged door on the right side.
Inside, the doors lead to a threshing floor in the second bay from the left, which is separated from the adjacent bays by two cill beams raised on rubble piers and stone flags set on end. These two transverse cill beams support a central plank stud that extends up to the tie-beams, which are connected to the rafters by raking struts. The two right-hand bays are divided by a rubble wall approximately 7 feet high. This wall supports a cill beam with three studs rising to the tie-beam. The right-hand bay, beyond the partition, is arranged over two storeys, with a stall containing a rack and trough on the ground floor and a hay loft above, providing stabling facilities. Much of the timber in this bay is reused. The barn forms a group with the adjacent farmhouse and cowhouse.
