Description
White Oak Farmhouse is a farmhouse that is now in an advanced state of decay, dating from the 16th or early 17th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and has a roof that is partly covered with stone slate and partly with corrugated metal. The building is designed in an L-shape, facing southeast, with wings aligned northwest/southeast and northeast/southwest. The entrance is located in the southeast gable end, and there are later additions at the rear. A stack is positioned at the junction of the wings, with another stack at the northwest gable end.
On the southeast front, the farmhouse has two storeys. The gable end of the right wing features one window opening on the ground floor, situated to the right of a forward projecting later gabled porch. The inner doorway is wooden framed and has a battened door. To the left, there is a single-storey adjoining wing that includes a three-light mullioned window, which lights the byre, located to the left of a square-headed doorway, and a four-pane casement window to the right. The interior is largely inaccessible but shows traces of former internal timber-framed partitions.
