Description
Craswall Priory consists of the ruins of a priory belonging to the Order of Grandmont, founded between 1220 and 1225. The structure is made of sandstone rubble, with some dressed stones still visible. The original layout is difficult to discern, but it included a small church with an apsidal end and a sacristy, which was separated from the chapter house by a small passage. The Royal Commission on Historical Monuments plan indicates the location of the claustral ranges. A few bases designed to hold water can still be seen at the entrance to the chapter house. Many features that were previously noted by Pevsner have become indistinguishable over time.
