Description
Hill Farm is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with later remodelling in the 18th century and late 19th or early 20th century windows and further additions. It has a timber-framed core from an earlier house, with sandstone rubble refacing and additional structures. The main house features a tarred slate roof, while part of the outshut has a pantiled roof. The building has a rectangular plan that may have originally consisted of two bays aligned east to west, with an additional bay at the west end and a continuous outshut to the rear, which was built in two separate sections.
The east gable end has a stack and an integral stone winder staircase, along with an entrance. The later addition to the west has its own gable-end stack and an external stone staircase leading to the first floor. The farmhouse is two storeys high. The east gable end features a small 2-light wooden mullioned window on the upper floor to the right, a heavy wooden frame doorway with a plain shaped head and a ledged door to the lower left, and a 2-light casement window in the outshut to the right. The south front has two 2-light casement windows on the first floor and three similar windows on the ground floor, with the two on the right having cambered heads and the one on the left featuring an inserted concrete lintel. The outshut obscures the former square-panelled timber-framed outer north wall. The interior has not been inspected.
