Description
Cinders is a farmhouse that dates back to the 14th century, with heightening in the 16th century and a north wing added in the 17th century. There were further additions and alterations made in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of sandstone rubble, with a timber-framed north wing and brick infill, topped with tiled roofs. It has a rectangular plan that runs east to west, with a rear wing extending to the north and additional later extensions to the west.
The farmhouse features lateral stacks and a central entrance on the south front. It stands two storeys high with attics, and includes two gabled dormers with 2-light casement windows. On the first floor, there is one 2-light window and one 3-light window with a segmental head, along with a 4-pane window and a 3-light window to the left. To the right of the 14th-century doorway, which has a two-centred arched head and sunken chamfered jambs, there is a forward projecting hipped addition with a bow window. There is also a blocked 14th-century trefoil-headed light that has likely been resited. At the rear, there is a blocked square-headed light, and the lateral stack on the left (east) features a pair of decorative shafts.
Inside, there is a late 16th-century or early 17th-century staircase with splat balusters, plain rails, and chamfered newels with moulded terminals.
