Description

The Old Manor House is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with repairs and alterations made in the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of handmade brick on a sandstone rubble base, with additional rubble sections and plain tiled roofs featuring large brick stacks on the north and west sides. The building is designed in an L-shape, with a large wing extending to the west of the south range.

The house has two storeys and an attic, characterized by a three-course band at the first floor level and a two-course band at the attic floor level and above. On the main east elevation, the windows are mostly replacement cross-casements, except for a 19th-century casement with three lights located on the ground floor of the south range. There are two windows on each floor of the south range and at the east end of the north range. The main entrance is situated at the south end of the south range, featuring a 19th-century porch with an embattled parapet and a half-glazed 19th-century door. Additional single-storey wings are attached to the south and west.

Inside, the original internal arrangements have been preserved, including a long hall in the south range, a parlour in the upper north wing, and a kitchen on the west side. At the west end of the parlour, there is a room with richly moulded ceiling beams that create rectangular compartments. The original open-well staircase is also intact, featuring heavily moulded newels, moulded handrails, and turned balusters.
