Description
Ruthland is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and an extension added in the 20th century. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and features a Welsh slate roof. Originally designed in an L-plan, it has been modified to form a T-shape with a 20th-century extension to the east of the wing, which is aligned east-west. The main wing has gable-end stacks that are now enclosed to the east, and the entrance is located to the left of the center on the north front. The building has two storeys and attics.
On the entrance front, there is one 3-light 20th-century casement window to the left and two 3-light windows to the right. A surviving 3-light wooden diamond mullioned window with a hood mould can be found to the right of the doorway on the ground floor. There is also a 20th-century lean-to porch with a 20th-century ledged door. The interior has not been inspected, but it has been recorded by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England as having a plank-and-muntin panelled partition and a stone winder staircase.
