Description

EARDISLEY CP LOWER WELSON SO 25 SE 2/83 Barn and shelter shed about 40 yards south-east of Lower Welson Farmhouse GV II Barn and shelter shed. Probably C17, altered mid-C19. Timber-framed and weatherboarded on rubble base with some corrugated metal cladding and corrugated metal roof. Three framed bays aligned north/south; central wagon bay with opposed cart entries and double doors. Interior: wall-frame has three rows of panels from sill to wall-plate and short straight braces in lower outer corner of upper outer panels. Roof has a collar and tie-beam end truss with struts (other truss altered and has king-post) and two inter- mediate tie-beam trusses with raking struts. Shelter shed situated at north end and returns around north-west side. Rubble with corrugated metal roof. Three plus two bays, open to north and west on circular rubble piers (some partly rebuilt in brick). Double doorway situated at east end. The barn and shelter shed enclose the farmyard to the east and flank the main approach to Lower Welson Farmhouse (qv). Included for group value.
