Description

This building consists of a barn and a shelter shed located about 20 yards north-west of Walker's House. The barn dates from the 17th century, while the shelter shed is from the mid-19th century. The barn is timber-framed and weatherboarded, with some areas covered in corrugated iron and a corrugated iron roof. It features three framed bays aligned north to south, with a central wagon bay that has opposing cart entries and double doors. The barn's framing includes a lower row of large rectangular panels and an upper row of smaller panels from the sill to the wall-plate, long straight lower corner braces, and collar and tie-beam trusses. The south end truss has two collars, five struts to the lower collar, three to the upper collar, and a V-strut in the apex. Intermediate trusses have raking struts across the lower corners, and there are two tiers of trenched purlins. An additional framed bay, which is lower in height, is attached to the north gable end and is similar in construction but features a truss with a single collar, three struts beneath, and a V-strut above.

The shelter shed is attached to the west elevation of the barn and has a brick rear wall, timber posts at the front, and a plain tiled roof. It is in an L-shape with eight bays aligned east to west and a two-bay return to the south-east. The shelter shed has intermediate 19th-century king-post roof trusses throughout. Together, the barn and shelter shed enclose the north, east, and west sides of the farmyard at Walker's House.
