Description

A farmhouse, dating from circa 1600, with alterations and additions made in the mid-20th century. The farmhouse is constructed of timber framing with painted brick and rendered infill, some brick replacement walling and refacing, and has plain tiled roofs. It consists of two main framed bays aligned east to west, with a single-bay, hipped-roofed timber-framed addition at the east gable end. The building is single-storey with an attic, featuring dormers. The timber framing on the main part of the house shows two, three, and four panels from sill to wall-plate. A collar and tie-beam truss is present at the west gable end with two collars, and three struts to the lower and two to the upper collar. A tie-beam and part of the collar survive at the east gable end. The timber-framed addition features two rows of panels from sill to wall-plate and long, straight braces across the lower corners. The south front has a ground floor 2-light and single-light casement window, a 20th-century raking-top dormer with a 3-light casement, and an entrance with a lean-to porch on shaped brackets, leading to a 19th-century ledged and battened door. A brick stack sits at the east end of the ridge. The timber-framed addition has a 2-light casement window. The interior was not inspected. A single-storey wing from the 20th century adjoins the west gable end. It is believed that the timber-framed addition was originally a service outshut.
