Description
The West Barn at Wakeley Farm, located 50 meters to the west-southwest of the house, is a barn that has been converted into a tractor shed and a lean-to shelter shed. It dates from the late 18th century, with the shelter shed added in the early 19th century. The barn features a timber frame that is weatherboarded and sits on a renewed red brick sill, topped with a steep roof now covered in slate.
The barn has five bays and faces north, with a lean-to on the south side. There is a double doorway on the north side, which is currently blocked, and a small winnowing door on the south side. The posts are alternately jowled and unjowled, with straight braces connecting to the tie-beams of a queen strut clasped-purlin roof. Each wall panel is braced to the center. The five-bay shelter shed has curved braces extending from the posts to the front wallplate. Additionally, there is a 20th-century opening in the west end of the barn.
