Description

Tannis Court and Tannis Court House is a house, now divided into two homes, dating from the early 18th century. It was extended at the rear in the early 19th century and late 20th century. The building features composite construction with oak beams and chamfered posts, along with timber-framed partitions, all within brick external walls that include some embedded posts. The exterior is painted and has parallel hipped roofs covered with old red tiles. The rear extensions, known as Tannis Court House, are built of brick in a similar style.

The structure is two stories high, square, and has a double-pile layout, facing south, with extensions at the same height at the rear. It has a central entrance and an end chimney plan, but the large external eastern chimney with offsets appears to be original. The smaller external western chimney likely dates from an early 19th-century refurbishment, which included dentilled eaves and two square two-light casement windows above three round-arched recesses that contain the door, flanked by two small bay windows. Early 18th-century two-light mullioned leaded casements remain on the side walls. This charming small house is of special interest as it illustrates the transition from timber-framed to all-brick construction.
