Description
The North Barn at Mill Farm, located on the north side of the courtyard, is a 17th-century barn. It features a timber frame resting on a brick sill, with dark weatherboarding and a steep half-hipped roof that is now covered in corrugated iron. The barn has five bays and a single aisle, facing south into the courtyard, with the aisle situated on the north side. There are double doors in the middle bay on the south side and a small winnowing door that is off-centre on the north side. The structure includes jowled posts with long straight braces connecting to the tie-beams and arcade plate. Each arcade post has a face-halved bladed scarf joint above it. The roof is a clasped-purlin collar type, with separate rafters over the aisle, and there is a mid-height rail that is tennoned in line.
