Description

Manor Cottage is a house dating from the 16th or 17th century, situated north of the chapel in Great Munden. It is a timber-frame building with weatherboard cladding above a stucco plinth. The roof is steeply pitched and thatched, with a half-hip at the east end, facing the road. The house originally had a central chimney and a two-unit plan, with a staircase located behind the central chimney. Internal gable chimneys are at the west end. Later, in the 19th century, low, slated, weatherboarded extensions were added to the west end and the front of the house. A red brick chimney is centrally positioned. Dormer windows are swept into the thatch at the eaves. The windows are small-paned, flush wooden casements. The entrance is now located in the front extension. There are two dormers at the rear.
