Description
The Ramblings is a house dating from the 17th century, which was extended in the early 19th century and features a 19th-century shopfront. The building has a timber frame with roughcast and a stucco plinth, topped with steep old red tile roofs, while the extensions have lower pitched slate roofs. It is a two-storey T-plan house that faces south, with a west gable end facing the road and a two-storey rear wing located in the middle of the north side. There is a central chimney in the southern block at the meeting of the roof ridges, and the rear slope of the roof continues in a catslide over the kitchen in the northeast angle. The northwest angle is filled by a two-storey wing from the 19th century that projects to the north and has a gable chimney. A similar wing projects from the west end of the south front and the west facade facing the road, which is unified by four flush box sash windows with 6/6 panes on the first floor and the shopfront in the gable of the older house. A central half-glazed door is situated between canted bays that are linked by a fascia. The building features side-purlin roofs.
