Description
The barn and shelter shed, located about 50 yards north-west of Upper House Farmhouse, is likely from the 17th century and was altered in the mid-19th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and weatherboarding on a rubble base, topped with a corrugated iron roof. The barn features four framed bays arranged in a north/south direction, with a wagon bay that has opposing cart entries and double doors in the second bay from the north end. Inside, the wall framing consists of four panels extending from the sill to the wall plate. The roof is supported by collar and tie-beam trusses with struts at each end, as well as intermediate tie-beam trusses with raking struts. The adjoining shelter shed to the south-east is made of rubble and has a stone-tiled roof laid in diminishing courses. It consists of five bays and is open on the north side, with the roof supported by timber posts and featuring intermediate king-post roof trusses.
