Description

Apple Tree Cottage and No 32 is a house that has been divided into two tenements, with Apple Tree Cottage on the north side and No 32 on the south. The building dates from the 17th century and has been altered in the mid-19th century and 20th century. It features a timber frame with brick infill and some refacing, a sandstone plinth, and stacks, topped with a tiled roof.

The structure consists of four framed bays aligned north to south, facing west, with later additions at the rear. There is a lean-to on the north gable end that encloses a stack, and a further addition on the south gable end that encloses both a stack and a shaft. Each house has a central entrance.

The building is single storey with an attic, featuring four gabled dormers that have 2-light casement windows, with two dormers for each house. The dormers on Apple Tree Cottage have leaded glass. The porch of Apple Tree Cottage has 2-light casement windows on either side of a glazed door, while No 32 has 3-light metal casement windows flanking a ledged door.

The framing is mostly intact, with brick refacing on the lower section of the west front. Originally, the framing had three square panels high from the sill to the wall plate, with angle bracing from the main post to the wall plate on No 32.
