Description
Apple Tree Cottage and Spicers Cottage are two houses that were formerly one dwelling. They date from the early to mid-18th century and are constructed of chequer brick with vitreous headers, topped by a plain tile roof and featuring a brick chimney on the left. The buildings are arranged in an L-plan with a gabled wing projecting to the right. They have one storey and an attic, or two storeys, with a total of three bays. There are band courses at the first floor level and above the upper storey in the gable.
The windows are mostly 20th-century leaded casements, with a three-light window on the ground floor to the right and two-light windows elsewhere. The upper left windows are set in gabled eaves-line dormers, while the other windows have chequered segmental heads and altered jambs. There are 20th-century doors located in gabled brick porches between the left bays and to the left of the right bay. To the right, there is a narrow 20th-century brick extension of one bay that has matching three-light casements and a skylight. The left gable features a timber truss, and there is also a 20th-century gabled brick extension at the rear.
