Description

Wooburn Working Men's Club is a club building from the mid-18th century that was remodeled and extended in 1879, funded by Alfred Gilbey as noted on a plaque. The structure features chequer brick with vitreous headers, coved wooden eaves, and a plain tile roof with an ornamental ridge. A brick chimney is located at the center of the roof. The gable and dormer gables are adorned with ornamental half-timbering and bargeboards, while the right gable end is pebbledashed. The building is 1½ storeys high and consists of three bays. It has a chamfered plinth and a first-floor band course that steps up to the right of the porch. The left bay, which is entirely from the 19th century, includes a canted projection that has a gable partly overhanging on wooden brackets. This projection features tall narrow lights with 20th-century aluminium windows and shaped aprons, with similar lights flanking it. The right bays have wooden casements with barred top-lights, a three-light window on the ground floor, and a two-light window in gabled oriel semi-dormers. In between the right bays is a gabled porch, altered in the 20th century, which has turned wooden balusters on the sides, a board door, and a cast iron lamp bracket.
