Description
Forge Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century, with some alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is timber framed with whitewashed brick and render infill, and the front gable end is completely rendered and whitewashed. The roof is covered with plain tiles, and there are 19th to 20th century bargeboards and a small brick chimney on the left side. The house has two storeys and two bays, with a gabled end facing the green. The upper storey jetties out at the front and features a 19th century moulded fascia board. The front has two 20th century three-light wooden casements on the ground floor and a 19th to 20th century three-light wooden casement with horizontal glazing bars on the first floor, along with a central boarded door. The left side has two paired casements with some leaded glazing on the first floor and a small wooden light on the ground floor to the left. The other bays attached to the rear have been rebuilt and are part of the Red Lion Inn. Inside, there are curved braces to the tie beam of the central truss, but other features are concealed.
