Description

The Wooburn War Memorial is a 1920 memorial designed by stonemasons Messrs G Maile & Son Ltd. It is a roughly-hewn granite obelisk approximately 5 metres high, set upon a square plinth and stepped base. The four sides of the plinth are inscribed with the names of 100 local men who died in the First World War and 34 who died in the Second World War. The stone pillar is inscribed with the words "PARISH OF WOOBURN/ROLL OF HONOUR/IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF/THE MEN WHO FOUGHT AND DIED/FOR ENGLAND'S HONOUR/IN THE WARS 1914-1919/1939-1945".
