Description

Minions Cottage is a house that dates back to the 16th century, with two bays on the right side and a later bay, likely from the early 19th century, on the left. There is also a 20th-century rear wing. The 16th-century bays feature timber framing on the upper storey, with a curved brace at the right end, whitewashed render infill, and exposed beam ends from the original jetty. The ground floor is underbuilt, rendered, and whitewashed. The left bay is also rendered and whitewashed, showcasing half-timbering. The cottage has an old tile roof and a small 20th-century brick chimney situated between the right bays. It stands two storeys high with an attic and consists of three bays. The right bays have 20th-century three-light leaded casements and a similar two-light casement in a central blocked doorway. There are two gabled dormers with paired leaded casements from the 20th century. A metal sundial is located at the centre of the upper storey, and a 20th-century rainwater head is dated 1541. The left side features a 20th-century door with carved panels in a 20th-century lean-to porch. The left bay has a 20th-century two-light leaded casement on the first floor and a lean-to garage entry below. The rear of the cottage is timber framed and includes a matching 20th-century wing with a jettied upper storey. Inside, there are heavy floor joists with chamfered spine beams supported by bracketed posts, cambered tie beams, queen strut trusses—one with additional raking queen posts—and curved wind-braces, but no original fireplace remains.
