Description
Moorend Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse with later alterations. It features a timber-framed structure, with parts painted brick and wattle-and-daub infill, and a sandstone plinth. The roof is tiled and hipped to the south. The building has five framed bays aligned north to south, facing east, with two small adjacent wings extending to the west at the northern front, which may have been the former stair turret and porch. The main entrance is located south of the center, and there is a large axial stack to the north of the center with three restored star plan brick shafts, along with an external stack at the south gable end. The farmhouse has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar.
The windows are irregularly placed, consisting of five casements with two and three lights, mostly leaded. There is a small two-light casement window directly below the eaves in the second bay from the north, one window to the south, and three to the north flank, which includes a glazed gabled porch. The framing features square panelling, generally seven panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with diagonal bracing from the sill to the main post and above from the girding beam to the main post at the north gable end, which has lattice framing.
Inside, the farmhouse contains good chamfered beams and moulded beams in the former main hall, which is now subdivided. A five-light ovolo moulded window is enclosed at the rear. The trusses have two struts to the collar with V-struts in the apex and two tiers of purlins.
