Description
No 1 St Peter's Square is a shop and dwelling, currently functioning as a hairdresser's, dating from the early 18th century. The building is constructed of painted brick with a lead roof and features a brick lateral stack. It stands three storeys high with a cellar and has a two-window range. The windows are 19th-century cross windows set under flat arches, located in shallow round-headed recesses beneath segmental arches. There are also 4/8 sashes under flat arches and a moulded stone coping atop the leaded parapet.
On the left side, there is a 19th-century six-fielded-panel door with a plain overlight, positioned under a semicircular arch, along with two plain round-headed sashes. To the right, there is a recessed 20th-century entrance leading to Putta's Close, which is adorned with rusticated stucco and a modillioned stone cornice.
Inside, the building features an early 19th-century staircase with stick balusters and a moulded rail, along with a stairwell window that has a Gothick glazed head. The first floor includes four-panel doors and architraves around the doors and windows.
