Description
No. 9 St Owen Street is a house that has been converted into offices. It features an 18th-century front with a 17th-century core. The building is constructed of painted brick and has a Welsh slate roof. It stands three storeys tall with a cellar and has a four-window range. The windows on the front include 20th-century paired plain sashes, with one window blocked, and above them are 20th-century 8/8 and 6/6 sashes, all set under gauged brick flat arches. The entrance is located to the left of the centre and consists of a 20th-century part-glazed door with a blocked fanlight, framed by a moulded round-headed doorcase that features a fluted keyblock and pilasters. To either side of the entrance are 20th-century plate-glass windows, also under gauged brick flat arches, with a blocked opening to the right. The left side of the building reveals 17th-century timber-framing in the gable.
Inside, there is a late 19th-century open-well staircase with stick balusters leading to the first floor. The attic contains heavy trusses and purlins, which were altered in the 20th century. On the first floor, there is a moulded ceiling frame with pyramid stop-chamfers, while the ground floor has a mutilated moulded ceiling frame. The cellar is stone-lined with brick arches, a stone stack base, and features a reused wood 4-centred arch with a carved bracket.
