Description
39 Market Street is a shop that dates back to the early 18th century, with some alterations made in the late 18th century. The building features a timber-frame structure with a stucco facade and has a parapeted roof with a brick stack at one end. It is designed in the Georgian style and stands three storeys high with a two-window range. The top cornice is complemented by a parapeted and coped cornice, and the building has quoins at the corners.
The late 19th-century shop front includes a recessed entrance with a half-glazed door that has six glazed panes and margin lights above two small flush panels, situated to the right of a plate glass window. Above the shop front, there is a canopy and fascia. The entrance is located to the right. The upper windows feature wedge lintels and keys; the first-floor windows have plate glass horned sashes, while the second-floor windows have sills with aprons and 12-pane sashes.
At the rear, there is a timber-framed gabled wing, although much of the framing has been renewed. The interior showcases chamfered beams and timber-framed walls, and the staircase features turned balusters.
