Description
33 Market Street is a shop and office building dating from the early 18th century, with later alterations from the 18th century. It features a timber-frame structure with a stuccoed brick front and a tiled roof with brick stacks, designed in the Georgian style.
The building stands three storeys high and has a five-window range. It is adorned with two stucco platt bands and a plain parapet. The shop front includes a recessed entrance flanked by small-paned windows with bowed inner returns, as well as moulded pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. The entrance has an overlight with decorative glazing bars above a half-glazed door, and the windows have panelled aprons. To the left of the shop front, there is an entrance with an architrave and a plank door, while to the right, another entrance features an overlight with decorative glazing bars above a six-panel door. The windows have sills, with the right end and first-floor windows having twelve-pane sashes, and the second-floor windows featuring six-pane sashes. There is a brick stack at the end of the building.
At the rear, there is a tall gabled wing with exposed timbering on the gable, lower plastered wings, and 20th-century flat-roofed additions. The building also has a large cross-axial stack and other stacks.
Inside, the entry features a chamfered beam, while the first floor has chamfered beams and timber-framed cross-walls.
