Description

Brookside Cottage is a house that likely dates from the 16th and 17th centuries, with later alterations. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and timber-frame with plaster infill, topped with a sandstone slate roof and featuring sandstone rubble stacks. The building has an L-plan shape with arms extending to the west and north, and it consists of one and two storeys with attics.

On the south elevation, there are two sets of windows in a 2:1 arrangement, along with two gabled dormers that have 2-light mid-20th century casements on the left side, and a 3-light casement in the gable front on the right. The ground floor of the left range features two contemporary casements flanking a glazed door, and there is a single row of square framing beneath the eaves. The gable includes two additional 2-light casements set in narrow studding, with a jet tied first floor that has restored brackets supporting a chamfered bressummer. There is diagonal framing on either side of the first floor window, and the top of the gable is adorned with V-struts. The interior was inaccessible during the last survey in February 1987.
