Description
Well Cottage is a house that likely dates back to the 17th century, with some later alterations. It features a sandstone rubble plinth and a timber frame with plaster infill, topped by a tiled roof and sandstone rubble stacks. The building has a rectangular plan that runs roughly north to south and consists of one and two storeys with attics.
On the east elevation, there are windows arranged in a 1:1 pattern. The left gable front has a late 20th-century window with glazing bars on each storey. To the right of this gable front, there is a two-light casement window in a gabled dormer, along with two glazing bar casements on the ground floor. The right-hand gable stack is surrounded by a projecting framed lower section that has an entry on its left-hand side. The frame of the main part of the house consists of three square panels high from the cill to the wall-plate, while the lower part has narrower infill panels. The interior is noted for its heavy ceiling beams.
