Description
Macklins is a house that likely dates from the 17th and 18th centuries, with some later alterations. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and timber-frame, with parts roughcast. The building features tiled roofs and an external sandstone rubble stack with a detached brick shaft. It has an L-shaped plan with three-bay arms extending to the south and east, and it stands one to two storeys high with attics.
The south elevation includes an unfenestrated two-storey wing on the left, which has square panels above a late 20th-century sandstone first storey. The right side features two late 20th-century casements, each with three lights. At the junction of the two wings, there is a framed lean-to that provides access to the east arm. The east gable displays exposed curved members, which may be the feet of crucks.
Inside, the building has ceiling beams with lambs' tongue and pyramidal chamfer stops. The roof of the west arm includes wind-braces and trusses supported by central posts connecting ties to collars. The floors are flagged with stone.
