Description

The Old Shop is a house, likely dating back to the late 17th or 18th century, with a visible remodelling in 1888, as indicated by a date stone. The building has a brick plinth and a timber-frame construction with brick infill panels. The roof is covered with sandstone slates, and there is a sandstone rubble and brick end stack. It has a rectangular two-bay plan oriented east-northeast/west-southwest. The two-storey north elevation features two windows, which are glazing bar sashes. The first-floor windows are set beneath gables. A central ledged door is positioned beneath a gabled canopy supported by brackets. The door frame is constructed of five panels from the cill to the wall-plate, with the top row enclosed by curved struts. The building is included on the list for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings.
