Description
The Rafters is a house that likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and timber-frame, topped with a tile roof. The building features a brick and sandstone stack and has a T-plan layout, with the main range oriented east to west and a mid-19th century extension to the north. The house has one storey and an attic.
On the south elevation, there are three windows, including early 20th century gabled dormers with 2-light casements. The ground floor includes a 2-light casement window on the left, flanked by two 3-light casements, one in the centre and one on the right. A ledged mid-20th century door and the left-hand window are sheltered by a tiled canopy. The ground floor is made of sandstone rubble, and there is one row of square panels situated between the eaves and the upper floor level. The building is included for its group value.
