Description
Yoke Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the mid- to late 17th century, with some parts rebuilt in the early 19th century. It features a combination of sandstone ashlar, timber framing with rendered infill, and sandstone rubble, topped with a hipped slate roof and a brick ridge stack. The original section consists of two framed bays oriented east to west, with an external rubble chimney that has offsets and a rebuilt stack on the south side. A 19th-century rebuilt wing is attached to the north, which includes a large external rubble chimney, a brick stack, and a bread oven at the north end. There is also a significant chimney at the junction of the two sections. The farmhouse has two storeys, with the framing showing two rows of square panels at the first floor level, and a collar and tie-beam truss with two struts at the east end.
On the main east elevation, the 19th-century section has three bays. All windows are 3-light 19th-century casements with cambered heads. The central entrance features a cambered head, a panelled door, and a transom light. The gable end of the original section to the left has a 3-light 19th-century casement on both floors. The interior has seen little alteration since the 19th century, and the hipped roof incorporates part of the roof of the original wing.
