Description
Great Blackhill Farmhouse is a farmhouse with an earlier core that likely dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century. It was altered in the early 20th century following fire damage. The building is constructed from sandstone rubble and has a 20th-century Welsh slate roof. It is designed in an L-shape, with the main house oriented north-east to south-west, facing north-west, and a rear wing extending to the south-east at the south-west end. The entrance is located left of center, with a stack that backs onto a former through-passage.
The north-west front features a single-storey and attic section on the left, which is the earlier surviving part, and a two-storey altered section on the right that has a higher roof level and a hipped end to the south-west. There is a wooden-framed 6-light diamond mullioned window on the left, which is partly blocked, along with a 3-light casement window and a similar 2-light window to the right of the entrance. The entrance is topped with a gabled canopy, and there is a wooden frame and battened door. A small dormer window is located below the shaft to the left of the junction with the higher roofline, which previously lit stone winder stairs that are now blocked on the interior.
Inside, there is a broad through-passage with a plank-and-muntin partition on the left side, featuring a pair of segmental-headed doorways, one of which has been distorted and widened at a later date.
