Description

Upper Nash Farmhouse is a farmhouse with a core dating back to the 15th century, which was remodeled in the mid-16th century and extended in the 17th century, with further additions and alterations made in the mid-19th century. The building is timber-framed with wattle-and-daub infill, a sandstone rubble plinth, and a rendered northwest front, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It has an irregular plan featuring an earlier core of three, possibly four bays, aligned northeast to southwest. The central bay was heightened and gabled on both fronts during the 16th century, and the house was further extended to the northwest and southwest. It has a main axial stack, with additional stacks at the southwest gable end and the northwest front of the northeast end.

The southeast front has two entrances, with a single-storey section to the left that includes one two-light casement window and one small single light. The central gabled two-storey section features one two-light glazing bar casement window and a central doorway with a ledged door flanked by sidelights. The gable to the right has two two-light casement windows, and similar windows flank a ledged door on the ground floor. The upper storey of the altered bay projects to the northwest front and has a decorative bressummer with carved pendants and plain brackets. The square panelled timber-framing is largely visible on the southeast front. Inside, the building is said to retain parts of two cruck trusses in the center and two 17th-century decorative overmantels, along with a plastered ceiling in the cross-wing.
