Description

Knill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and further changes in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is completely covered in pebbledash render, resting on a sandstone rubble plinth, with the east gable end also made of rubble. The farmhouse has tiled roofs and brick chimney stacks. It is designed in an L-shape with a cross-wing at the west end, and the main wing has been extended to the east with additional structures on the north side. The north gable end of the cross-wing is adjacent to a barn that extends to the north.

The entrance is now located on the west side of the cross-wing, and there are one axial and one east gable-end stack on the main wing, as well as a north gable-end stack on the cross-wing. The building has two storeys, attics, and cellars. On the west entrance front, there are two 9-pane glazing bar sash windows on the first floor, and a large 6-pane glazing bar sash window to the left of the gabled porch, which has an inner ledged door with a plain overlight.

At the rear, two sections of square panelled timber-framing are visible, indicating that the roof of the main wing was raised, likely during the mid-19th century. The interior retains chamfered ceiling beams and re-used 17th-century panelling in the hallway, along with a small panel of plasterwork with a fielded margin that survives in a bedroom to the southeast.
