Description

Lower Hunthouse is a farmhouse with an early 17th-century core, significantly altered during the 18th and early 19th centuries, with further changes in the 20th century. It is constructed from sandstone rubble with a Welsh slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan, incorporating a lobby-entry and a further north gable-end stack. It extends over two storeys, includes an attic, and has a cellar. The entrance front has four openings. A window on the left end replaces a former doorway leading to a granary. The ground floor has 3-light casement windows, with steps leading to the former granary on the left. A 3-light casement window is located to the left of a 20th-century gabled half-glazed porch, and another window to the right. The inner doorway has a wooden-framed ledged door. Internally, the farmhouse has been altered, yet retains a large open fireplace in the room to the right of the entrance, featuring a massive stone lintel. Some chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops survive in this room.
