Description
Gwyrlodyfain is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century or early 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and 20th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and rendered, topped with a 20th-century concrete tiled roof. The building may have originally been a longhouse, oriented north-east to south-west, and it faces south-east. The entrance is positioned left of center, with a stack backing onto a wide through-passage and additional stacks at the gable ends. There is a 20th-century lean-to extension at the rear. The structure is single storey with an attic, featuring four 20th-century dormer windows with two lights each. On the ground floor, there is one three-light casement window to the left and one three-light and one two-light window to the right of a low wide doorway, which has a wooden frame and a battened door. The interior shows exposed cruck trusses at the north-eastern end, while the rest is covered. The interior has been largely altered during the mid-19th century. The building is noted for the survival of its 16th-century framing and plan-form.
