8/93 Barn and stables about 100 yards south-west of Stocken Farmhouse

GV II

Barn and stables. Probably C18 with later alterations. Sandstone rubble gables and plinth and weatherboarded timber-frame. Welsh slate roof. Five structural bays aligned north-north-east/south-south-west. Two levels. East elevation has central opposed full-height ledged doors with two stable doors in plinth to either side. Weatherboarded upper level. Attached to right-hand side is a lower stable with weatherboards. Interior has trusses with queen struts rising from interrupted tie-beams. Collars carry angle struts. Wall-frame is of thin scantling with one row of tall rectangular panels above the plinth.
