Description

Old Hall is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 17th and 18th centuries, with some later alterations. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a timber frame with plaster and brick infill, along with a partly rendered brick extension. The roofs are made of sandstone and Welsh slate, with both sandstone and brick stacks. The building has an L-plan layout, with arms extending to the north-west and north-east, containing four and three structural bays, respectively. It stands two storeys high with an attic.

The north elevation displays a pattern of three windows on the upper floor, including one small sash window to the left and a gable front featuring a 2-light and a 3-light early 19th-century casement window in between. The gable top has a central attic opening above the collar. On the ground floor, there are 2-light and 3-light casement windows, and to the left of the 3-light casement in the main range is a ledged door from the late 18th or early 19th century.

Inside, the floors are flagged with stone, and the trusses in the north-west arm have plain collars. In the other range, two trusses feature raking struts, while the easternmost has queen posts with a collar between them. Beneath this collar is a 2-light attic window that was part of the former outside wall. The ground floor rooms are adorned with panelled ceilings made from chamfered beams, many of which showcase large lamb's tongue run-out stops. It is noted that the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England incorrectly states that the cross-wing of Old Hall is at the east end.
