Description
Willey Lodge is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 17th century to the 18th century, with some later alterations. It features rendered and painted sandstone with a rubble plinth or casing and a timber-framed upper storey. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and has two extruded sandstone end stacks with brick shafts. The building has a rectangular plan that is roughly aligned north-east to south-west, with a short cross-wing at the north-east end.
It stands two storeys high with an attic. The south-east elevation has windows that are 1:1 in proportion, featuring late 19th century to early 20th century casements with two lights. The ground floor includes a 4-light window and a 3-light window, both from the same period. A large sandstone stack masks the right part of the gable front, and to the right of this is a catslide extension to the gabled wing. The left side also has a large sandstone stack. The frame on the left part has thin, closely set posts on the upper storey with two diagonal braces, likely from the 18th century. The gable features square panels.
The entry on the north-west side has a low gabled porch supported by two posts with recessed panels, leading to a ledged oak door. Inside, there is a ceiling beam with lamb's tongue run-out chamfer stops. The oak open well staircase, probably from the late 18th century to early 19th century, has two flights and two half-landings with turned newels. The trusses feature raking struts from ties to principals.
