Description
Brierley Hill Farmhouse and its attached barn date from the 17th and 18th centuries, with possible origins in the 15th or 16th centuries. The structure is built from sandstone rubble and timber-frame, featuring brick and woven infill, along with some weatherboarding. The roofs are covered with corrugated iron and felt, and there are sandstone and brick stacks. The building has a rectangular plan that runs north-north-east to south-south-west, with a small wing extending eastwards at the south end and a three-bay barn to the north. It is one storey high with an attic.
On the east elevation, there is a gable front on the left side with a central 2-light opening to the attic. The remaining windows in the gable and wall were undergoing repair at the time of the last survey in May 1986. To the right of the gable, there are two entrances and a small opening set within brick and woven infill panels. A large sandstone stack is located at the junction with the barn, which is partly constructed of rubble and partly weatherboarded, topped with a corrugated iron roof. Inside the house, there are queen struts supporting the trusses, while the barn features parallel raking struts and three short cruck blades noted on the ground.
