Description
Viltis is a building that was originally a mill and mill house, now converted into a house. It likely dates from the 17th century, with additions made in the mid-19th century and later, as well as some alterations in the 20th century. The structure is timber-framed with a sandstone plinth and rendered infill, featuring later brick additions. The roofs are tiled, with part being half-hipped and others covered with concrete tiles.
The former mill section is two bays long and aligned north-east to south-west, while the three-bay house is on a similar alignment but has a slightly lower roofline. There are later additions to the south-west and north-west. The south-east front is single storey with an attic, featuring a 20th-century continuous flat-roofed dormer that includes three 2-light glazing bar casements. Below this, there are two similar windows in the former mill section on the right. The central gabled dormer has a pair of 2-light 20th-century windows, and to the right of a 20th-century door, there are two more similar windows. The central house section has a further 20th-century door and windows to the right, along with a 19th-century adjoining brick addition to the left. The later additions are not considered to have special architectural interest. The building was formerly known as Nupend Mill.
