Description
Chapel Mill is a house and former mill located on Lenham Heath Road, dating from the early 17th century with a late 18th to early 19th century extension. The mill was built in the 19th century and converted in the 20th century. The structure features a timber frame, with the house having a red brick ground floor, primarily in stretcher bond, and a first floor that is tile hung. The mill is weatherboarded, and both buildings have plain tile roofs.
The house is two storeys with an attic and has a roof that is hipped to the right. The mill is also two storeys, with a half-hipped roof to the left and eaves that are lower than those of the house. There is an eaves dormer in the centre of the mill and a single dormer in the house. The house has irregular fenestration, with two first-floor casements: one with three lights to the left and one with two lights to the right. The former mill has boarded double doors, while the house features a late 20th-century glazed door beneath a late 20th-century red brick porch at the left end.
To the right of the house is a separately roofed, single-bay extension from the late 18th to early 19th century, which is set back from the front elevation and wraps around the rear of the house. This extension is two storeys high, with a red brick ground floor at the front, rendered on the right side and rear, and a tile-hung first floor. The roof of the extension is plain tile, hipped at the front and rear, and continues along the rear elevation of the addition. Inside, the building features exposed timbers.
