Description

A scattered group of nine memorials is located to the north-east of the Church of St John the Baptist. These memorials date from the 18th and 19th centuries and are made of sandstone ashlar. They include four pedestal tombs and five chest tombs, mostly with rectangular plans.

The Prosser memorial is an early 19th-century pedestal tomb featuring oval inscription panels with a foliar motif in the spandrels, decorative capping, and a missing finial. It commemorates members of the Prosser family. The Gammond memorial is another pedestal tomb from the early to mid-19th century, characterized by a fielded inscription panel and a band of acanthus below its pyramidal capping.

The Smallwood memorial, a chest tomb from 1807, has pyramidal capping and balusters flanking fielded inscription panels with oval insets and floral motifs in the spandrels. The John Marfell memorial, a chest tomb from 1825, also features balusters flanking a fielded inscription panel adorned with floral motifs.

The Hullett memorial, dating from 1788, is a triangular pedestal tomb with decorative brackets at the angles, a frieze below the capping, and a damaged swagged urn finial. The Verry memorial, a chest tomb from 1822, has a fielded inscription panel. There is also a defaced pedestal tomb from the early 19th century, along with two defaced chest tombs, which feature corner balusters and fielded inscription panels.
