Description
A group of six memorials is located approximately six meters southeast of the Church of St John the Baptist. These consist of six chest tombs and one pedestal tomb, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, made of sandstone ashlar. Each tomb has a rectangular plan with moulded plinths and capping.
The memorial for Thomas Bamford, dated 1777, features baluster-shaped end panels and fielded inscription panels. The Richard Hill memorial, from 1803, is a pedestal tomb with three-quarter corner balusters and an oval inscription panel. The Richard Holmes memorial, dated 1775, also has baluster-shaped end panels and a flank fielded inscription panel. The Martha Addis memorial, from 1795, includes shaped end panels adorned with a cartouche and a swag of fruit, along with a fielded inscription panel. There are two defaced tombs from the 18th century, one featuring a cartouche on the short sides and a fielded inscription panel, and the other with shaped end panels and an oval inset rectangular inscription panel.
